school seniors--- July 23 and 24, 2004
Program will be offered if enough
students register for the event
VCU Vision—a hands-on, overnight program for
high school seniors--- is the collaboration between the School
of Business
and the School of Engineering on July 23-24. Friday night students
have the opportunity to explore the campus, cook outdoors and stay
overnight in a residence hall. On Saturday 40 students select two
business topics to further explore. In the past, Dr. Michael McDaniel
taught People and Organizations: the Right People, the Right Jobs" with
students completing vocational interest forms, learning about personality
measures and traits and finally, exploring differences in peoples'
motivational needs. Dr. Ed Millner introduced creating markets
within laboratories in "Economics and the Stock Market: What
are you willing to risk?" These controlled experiments tested
the ability of economic theories to predict the observed outcomes.
Students participated as a buyer or a seller in a series of lab
markets. The Engineering School offered sessions relating to creative
design of an electro-mechanical system, applications for polymers
and a tour of a chemical mini-plant designed and built by senior
chemical engineering students.
