MBA STUDENT HIREN KOTAK RECEIVES
BEST PAPER
Congratulations to MBA student, Hiren H. Kotak, for receiving ‘Best
Paper of a Track Chair’ from American Society of Business
and Behavioral Sciences, for his finance research paper, titled ‘Effects
of Announcing Early Adoption of Expensing Employee Stock Options
on Stock Performance’, co-authored with Dr. Frank Bacon
of Longwood University.
Hiren attended ASBBS 13th Annual Conference in Las Vegas
during February 23-26, 2006 to present his paper at the conference
and to receive his award. His paper is also accepted for publication
in the e-Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences.
This research paper uses the standard risk adjusted event
study methodology with the market model, and analyzed 2,520
recent observations on a sample of thirteen S&P 500 financial
firms to examine the impact of the announcement of
expensing employee stock options on the firms’ stock
price. Appropriate statistical test results show a significant
positive market reaction up to nineteen days prior to the announcement
of expensing employee stock options, and they support efficient
market theory at the semi-strong form level.
Also, his case study, titled ‘Improving Debt Collection
Processes using Rule-Based Decision Engines: a case study of
Capital One’ (co-authored with Dr. Amita Goyal-Chin),
has been published in the ‘International Journal of Information
Management’ in February 2006. This case analyzes the
pre and post implementation situation at Capital One, a leading
credit card and financial services company which has successfully
implemented a large-scale rule based decision engine system,
as a component of its core debt collections processes, to achieve
a hallmark competitive edge.
