June 20 - Mayor Wilder and the Shockoe Advisory Committee
An overflow crowd met in the School of Business. Dr. Michael Pratt is Committee chairman. Extensive coverage by Richmond television and radio stations. Also, related stories appeared in Richmond Times-Dispatch,Style, and Richmond.com

June 27 - “Once-hot computer field now faces worker shortage” in Richmond Times Dispatch featured comments from School of Business student Marshall Thompson, who is finishing his master’s degree in computer science.

Town Hall Meeting on Impact of Hurricane Katrina
September 7- Moderated by Dr. Etti Baranoff, associate professor of Finance, Insurance and Risk Management. Reviewed by The Commonwealth Times. Overflow crowd of students and guests responded to a presentation by Dr. Bananoff, and additional comments by Dr.Van Wood, Philip Morris Chair, Dr. Brent Smith, assistant professor of real estate and Dr. David Dubofsky, professor of Finance.

Filming during September, 2005

Tammy Berwanger of the VCU Marketing Department and camera men from WWBT Commercial Production Dept. video taped student activities around the campus. Later all of these vignettes of university life will be edited for four new 20-minute VCU promotional films that will focus on its growth, the diversity of its class offerings, and expanded student activities. Topics filmed from the School of Business were Drs. Michael Pitts and Jon Ackley, Department of Management, discussing the NASCAR Honors class, Dr. Frank Franzak, Chair of Marketing Department, discussing the hands-on marketing techniques used. Students Danielle Brown and Diamond White also were interviewed for the marketing piece. The videos will be used to market the university. highlighting the fact that “it is not the same old university it used to be”.

June and July, 2005

This release took several unusual and interesting turns, in that it appeared on many dot.com sites.

Dr. Michael McDaniel, professor of management and a member of the doctoral faculty, School of Business, Management Department published the study, “Big Brained People are Smarter,” A condensed media release was picked up by numerous publications, in blog journals and on dot.com sites. Completed an interview with Matt Demlein, WRVA Clear Channel Network, on the NASCAR honors class he teaches with Michael Pitts. It aired during Race Week - sometime around Labor Day when they need a casual local story.

“Deconstructing the Trumpster” is heading into its FOURTH season with Dr. Urban
