Faculty Media Activities for October through December, 2005

Following is a synopsis of local, national and international media attention created by quotes and speeches given by the VCU School of Business faculty.

Dr. Peter Aiken, associate professor of Information Systems

November, 2005

“TV an increasingly solitary pursuit” by Douglas Durden, Richmond Times-Dispatch. Dr. Aiken discusses how many ways television programs can be viewed via iPod, computer, video, DVD, TiVo, etc.

December 2, 2005

The article “Evolution of TV watching” quoted Dr. Aiken on how people are watching television these days – Ipod, etc. in the Dallas Morning News and Dallas.com

December 17, 2005

“Bringing out an urban lifestyle in Henrico. Plans for Short Pump include village with shops, houses, offices” in Richmond Times Dispatch.
Discussion of mix-use market in Henrico County.

 
Dr. Gurpreet Dhillion, professor of Information Systems

Dr. Dhillion’s speeches were reviewed on Chandigarh Newsline, an online website, and in The Indian Express, a national daily Indian newspaper.

Dr. Dhillion has completed a tour of India with lectures at Indian Institute of Management (Calcutta) and for the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in Delhi and Chandigarh. The lectures centered around "Principles of Information Systems Security" (John Wiley & Sons, 2006) by Dr. Dhillion, and to be published this spring.

He also spoke at the ALUMNI meeting of St John’s High School at Chandigarh, India and presented the nature, scope and role of the "Conference on Information Science Technology and Management" which he is chairing, (July 16-18, 2006). He stressed the importance of this meeting in closing the digital divide.

“River rush crates cash flow” by Carol Hazard in Richmond Times-Dispatch and TimesDispatch.com. “ A high level of investment activity is a healthy sign,” said Dr. Downs in discussing Richmond’s new Riverside on the James property.

Dr. Charles Gallagher, Director, Virginia Family & Private Business Forum

October 2

“State family-business group changes leadership, expands” appeared in the October 2 Richmond Times-Dispatch announcing the reforming of the group and its purpose. It was written by small business reporter Gail Kelley.

October 17

“Family-business lecturer speaks from experience” by Julian Benbow, who previewed the Virginia Family & Private Business Forum’s October 19 meeting.

December 2005 - January 2006
Dr. Griggs wrote the feature “Richmond War Memorial” recalling the profiles of many of the military persons who are named on the Memoral for the current issue of Richmond Guide.

“GM cuts may echo in Va.” by John Reid Blackwell in Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Concludes a season of reviewing “The Apprentice: Donald Trump” and “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart” for Richmond.com this also marked the conclusion of three years reviewing the Donald Trump episodes.
