BUSINESS ALUMNUS AND FORMER PROFESSOR DONATES PROCEEDS OF NEW
BOOK TO VCU
C. Mac Coiner (MS ’75), CPA was a member of the adjunct
faculty at VCU School of Business for 17 years, teaching a Personal
Finance class. He recently retired from Bank of America, where
he advised dozens of millionaire clients. His new book Chairman
of Your Board: Ten $trategie$ to Run “You Inc.” features
the advice of those millionaires as well as worksheets and strategies
for financial success that Coiner developed during his years in
the classroom. The book is designed “as much for the financially
savvy as it is for those with no dollar sense." Chairman of
Your Board is available at the VCU Bookstore, 1111 W. Broad St.,
(804) 828-1678. Get a sampling of Coiner’s financial tips
and learn more about the book in the July 5 Richmond Times Dispatch

*** SPECIAL FEATURE: ALUMNI REMEMBER FAVORITE PROFESSORS ***
We are still happy to accept your remarks about your favorite
VCU business professors at bus-alum@vcu.edu
Richard Blalock headed up the Labor Relations
section of the Business School. He had a wonderful knowledge of
Labor Law coupled with
a great instinct of common sense and guts based on hands on experience.
- George W. Thomas, MS’75, Chesapeake, VA
I had a wonderful English Lit/Grammar teacher when the school
was RPI. His name was George Longest. - Bobbie
Hall Cox, BS'67, Mooresville, NC
Dr. Mervyn Wingfield, CPA, former Chairman of
the Department of Accounting, was an excellent Auditing teacher
and advisor. He encouraged
submission of worthwhile term papers to professional journals for
publication, ultimately being responsible for my first article
being published. He participated in accounting and auditing professional
associations, and was certainly a good advisor and mentor who demanded
that his students learn their work while being creative. Even after
his retirement, it was a pleasure seeing him at Continuing Education
programs while maintaining his CPA license. - - John R.
Allen, MS’79, CPA, CIA, CISA, CFSA, CGAP, CCP,
CSP, CDP, ChFC, CLU & FLMI, Richmond, VA
I have 2 favorite instructors from VCU: Dr. Paul Fuhs and Dr.
Chad Nestman. I decided on my major in Information Systems
in my third year, not really knowing what I was getting into. During
my first class in "Information Systems" with Dr. Nestman,
I was ready to quit because I just didn’t "get it".
Dr. Nestman painstakingly walked me through some code, and the
light came on for me. Dr. Fuhs was also a challenging instructor
from whom I learned a great deal. I have somehow lost touch with
these instructors over the years, but if they are reading this,
I would just like for them to know how much I appreciate both of
them. - - Sandy Hurst, BS’82, San Diego, CA
