PROFESSORS
PROBE. Mutual funds have become a timely topic. Experts on the topic
such as Dr. David Dubofsky are in great
demand by the media. In a November 15 article in the New
York Times and later reprinted around the world through the
New York Times News Service. Dr. Dubofsky discussed his 1998
research article called "Exploiting International Stock
Market Correlations With Open-End International Mutual Funds," published
in the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting. In addition
to quoting Dr. Dubofsky, VCU professor of finance, the article
also cited research done by professors at Stanford University
and Yale.
BUSINESS STAR. Edward L. Flippen of
Richmond has been named the 2003 School of Business Alumni
Star on Founders Day November
17. Flippen received his Bachelor of Science in Business
in 1964. He is a partner in the Public Utilities and Energy
Group for McGuire Woods. Flippen also is former rector and
member of the VCU Board of Visitors and past chair of the
administrative law section for the Virginia State Board of
Governors.
VCU FINISHES THIRD. Nine teams from six universities competed
in the 2003 Fed Challenge. This year VCU’s team finished
third. The seven team members are Bismark Agbemble, Alex
Mengesha, Adam Miller, Luis Somoza, Jason Swenson, Pient
Tran and Matthew Williams.
NETWORKING WORKS. On November 15 over 80 juniors, seniors
and graduate students turned out to meet over 34 representatives
of 25 companies at a “Networking Night” designed
especially to help graduates learn the finer art of mingling
and talking to prospective employers. The evening is one
of a series of events sponsored by the VCU Alumni Board as
part of a job search educational program Refreshments were
sponsored by Capital One.
ALL MAJORS USE MARKETING. Dr. Pamela Kiecker, professor
of marketing, was back on campus November 11 presenting an
Interactive
Marketing presentation to VCU’s American Marketing
Association Chapter. “Need Some Marketing” was
the title. The program was directed to all majors because
marketing is a part of nearly every business action.
