GLOBAL SCHOLAR PROGRAM BECOMES REALITY
Throughout this year the new Global Scholar in Business program
will begin recruiting high school seniors with strong academic
potential. This is a new program
created to help undergraduate students obtain the exposure and
necessary skills to be effective leaders in a changing global environment.
Participants will gain a solid foundation of business knowledge
by selecting from the nine majors and 11 tracks offered by the
School of Business. Other aspects of the program provide for mentoring,
completing an internship, and developing an individualized international
experience. The new program will begin in Fall 2005.
In 2000-2001 Business School faculty members created the framework
for the program, but due to economic conditions at the time, it

"LESSONS FROM THE MOVIES" WITH
EMBA STUDENTS
"Keep learning! Set goals every day! Be patient! Practice
a few things consistently every day!" These were among the
gems of advice in David L. Monday's '76, presentation "Lessons
in Success From The Movies," to the Fast Track MBA class on
Friday, October 8 . Dramatic clips from the movies "The Edge," "Hoosiers", "Seabiscuit," and "Any
Given Sunday" reinforced the motivational punch lines delivered
by Anthony Hopkins, Gene Hackman, Jeff Bridges and Al Pacino that
helped win the game or create a survivor.
Monday, a senior executive with Wachovia Securities and its predecessor
organizations for 15 years, has delivered hundreds of speeches
and lectures to investors, sales people, managers, industry organizations
and community groups. Monday's humorous and personal style drilled
home what he has found to be the basic rules for success. The School
of Business is fortunate in having VCU alumni such as Monday give
programs. Thank you Mr. Monday.
