Summary of Bachelor of Science in Marketing Curriculum

 

Prior to beginning the MKTG core curriculum, students must successfully complete the general requirements for undergraduate business degrees. During the spring 2009 semester, the University Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UUCC) approved the many changes submitted by the MKTG faculty regarding the BS in Marketing degree program. Students enrolled in the BS in Marketing degree program before the summer of 2009 can proceed with the program that was in existence when they came into the University. However, they may also elect to follow the 09-10 requirements. To view the new curriculum requirements, click here. There are good reasons to take advantage of the provisions of the new plan, because in general, it provides more flexibility than the old plan.

 

Should students choose to follow the new curriculum, they will NOT be required to take MKTG 302 IF they had previously successfully completed MKTG 476. Please contact us at mktgdept@vcu.edu should you have any questions or concerns regarding the MKTG curriculum changes.

 

The Bachelor of Science in Marketing core curriculum specific to marketing majors in the School of Business prior to the summer of 2009 includes:

 

Required Courses (9 credits):

  • MKTG 310 Information for Marketing Decisions

  • MKTG 320 International Marketing (previously MKTG 378)

  • MKTG 302 Marketing Problems (previously MKTG 476)

Elective Courses (Select 6 courses from the following list for a total of 18 credits):

  • MKTG 330 Integrated Marketing Communications (previously MKTG 371)

  • MKTG 315 Buyer Behavior (previously MKTG 373)

  • MKTG 340 Retail Management (previously MKTG 376)

  • MKTG 435 Personal Selling and Sales Management (previously MKTG 474)

  • MKTG 442 Services Marketing (previously MKTG 475)

  • MKTG 448 Internet Marketing (previously MKTG 478)

  • MKTG 450 Product Development and Management (previously MKTG 472)

  • MKTG 491 Topics in Business (Marketing Topic)

  • MKTG 492 Independent Study
