VCU Chapter of the American Marketing Association

The VCU Chapter of the American Marketing Association is sponsored through the MKTG department. This association is a student chapter of the National American Marketing Association. The aim of the association is to improve the overall understanding of the facets and principles of marketing within the student body at VCU. The association is dedicated to providing students with a business organization that has a strong networking base that focuses on marketing with dynamic speakers and social networking events.

AMA Events

The AMA routinely hosts guest speakers from the business community to discuss such topics as leadership strategies, marketing, networking, resume writing, interviewing skills, and business analysis. Past guest speakers have included district managers, advertising specialists, CEOs, recruiters, and other business professionals. The AMA is also involved in service including organizing donations to the Virginia Food Bank. Members of the AMA have also had the opportunity to attend special guest speaker events at the Richmond Chapter of the AMA.

The officers of the AMA for the 2008-2009 academic year include:

  • LaShay Kenney (President)
  • Josh Wilberger (Vice President)
  • Sarah Spear (Public Relations and Communications)
  • Justin Baybutt (Membership and Recruitment)
  • Cassie Harris (Promotion)

The follow students have been elected as officers for the 2009-2010 academic year:

  • Brittany Gary (President)
  • Chris Sanders (Vice President)
  • Eliza Robinson (Secretary)
  • Tyler Owens (V.P of Recruitment/Membership)
  • Svetlana Korenman (V.P. of Promotions/Activities)
  Student Engagement

The primary goal of the VCU Chapter of the AMA is to increase membership and provide those members with the opportunity to network, gain new marketing skills, and to meet other students with similar goals and professional interests.

There is ample opportunity for students to become involved in community engagement, networking, and leadership opportunities. Students involved in the AMA are giving the opportunity to develop their leadership skills by taking responsibility for takes and having a hands-on approach to the student experience.
