The Employment Support Institute (ESI) at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Business provides training and support to people with disabilities and advocates who want to learn how to most effectively use WorkWORLDTM decision support software. WorkWORLD helps people better understand the policies and programs that affect them and to make informed choices about work incentive programs associated with various Federal disability and poverty programs.
WorkWORLD is a unique program for personal computers which automates the computation of benefits, and takes into account the complex interaction of income, benefit programs, and work incentives. The software simplifies the management of complex interacting policies, helping people explore individualized options that lead to greater independence and self-determination.
WorkWORLD is currently being used successfully by people with disabilities, advocates, benefits counselors, and rehabilitation specialists throughout the country. Hands-on training provides individuals who have downloaded the software from the WorkWORLD website, or who have ordered the CD-ROM version from ESI, the opportunity to fully explore its capacities with ESI staff and colleagues.
Training programs are designed to accommodate individuals who have different levels of experience with using WorkWORLD. We customize each training program to the interests and needs of participants to create a learning experience for both beginners and more experienced individuals.
