    INTRODUCTION (up)
This program is designed to provide you with an overview of key areas in human resource management. Materials include six modules that correspond to the six functional areas, responsibilities, and associated knowledge as defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

Besides being an excellent resource for orienting you to the PHR or SPHR certification exams, the SHRM® Learning System Program provides a solid foundation for managing the HR challenges you face in today's demanding work environment. It supplies a current reference of HR practices, broadens the perspective of functional specialists, and strengthens individual competencies and productivity.

This program is offered in cooperation with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and uses study material compatible for preparing for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification ex
aminations administered by HRCI. Candidates who satisfactorily complete this program receive a non-credit Certificate from SHRM and the VCU School of Business.

    **
CLASS CONTINGENCY NOTE - In the event an insufficient number of participants specify a PHR or SPHR preference both classes will be taught identically. Also, in the event there is insufficient enrollment to operate two classes, a single class will be held at the School on TUESDAYS. Participants would be enrolled in this single class based on the earliest dates their registrations were received at the Center for Corporate Education for either class. Maximum class size is 25.

    SPHR OR PHR SECTIONS (up)
The subjects covered in each program are the same. However, the SPHR program places greater emphasis on HR generalist information at the strategic and policy level. The SPHR class is appropriate for those with at least six years of exempt-level HR experience. The PHR class is generally considered appropriate for HR professionals with two to four years of exempt-level HR work experience. (We strongly recommend you review information at
www.hrci.org as you make an enrollment decision.)

    WHO SHOULD ATTEND (up)
Our program is specifically designed for managers and staff with experience in general management or human resource management. It is recommended for: HR practitioners seeking professional development to enhance or advance their career; experienced managers who are new to the human resource field; other mid-level managers pursuing career change or promotion; and HR professionals planning to take the PHR or SPHR certification exams.
