Based on other evidence of
highly recognized scholarly work and/or activities as
outlined in the respective department's criteria for designating
eligibility to teach 700 level courses and chair doctoral
dissertations and previously approved through the School
of Business Ph.D. Committee.
The candidate requesting consideration under Option 2 must
submit a detailed case statement, supported by the department
chair, describing the manner in which the work he/she has
submitted for review satisfies the definition of basic research.
The narrative should include evidence of citations, bibliographic
information used to create submitted material, as well as
a description of the way in which the presented work constitutes
basic research. If the candidate is presenting his/her case
on merits other than published basic research, he/she must
clearly and extensively demonstrate how the provided work/activities
represent excellence in scholarship and is highly recognized
by the academic community.
Note: This venue is made available for the purpose of
allowing faculty with an exceptional scholarly record that
for one reason or another is not captured under option
1 but the emphasis continues to be excellence in basic
research rather than applied or instructional research.
"Other criteria for doctoral-level designation will
be identified by the departments and must be consistent with
the mission of an AACSB doctoral granting institution." [Minutes
of the Sept 17, 1997 meeting of the Ph.D. Committee] This
eligibility option was instituted to allow consideration
of cases where an individual does not qualify for designation
by the criteria defined for Tier 1 & 2 journal articles,
but has other significant evidence of basic scholarship.
The other evidence might include, for example, authorship
of a university press book or authorship of one article in
a Tier 1 & 2 journal and another article not on the Tier
1 & 2 list but which has generated a significant number
of citations.
