For Option 1 (a) on the request for designation

Please check that the journal where you published the articles submitted for consideration are listed in the Web of Science.
Provide a hardcopy showing the journal listed in the Web of Science.
For Option 1 (b) on the request for designation to
teach 700-level courses and chair dissertations
This option allows for consideration of journals that are not in the Web of Science.
Once in the file, refer to the sheet titled, "Instructions and
an Example". The instructions indicate that "As well, the cumulative
number of authors from US universities is shown at the top of the sheet.
The sample of authors affiliated with US universities should be approximately
50, but journal issues more than five years old should not be used."
As indicated in the instructions and the spreadsheet calculations, the
criteria refer to the number of single-author equivalent articles. So
if an individual from Harvard co-authors an article with an individual
at a foreign university, then this is one-half an author from a US university
(that is, in single-author equivalent units).
If all the articles were from authors at U.S. universities, then one
would need 50 articles. If half the authors were from US universities
(the other half coming from foreign universities/institutes/government
agencies) then one would need to look at 100 articles, and so on.

teach 700-level courses and chair dissertations
The file option 1c.pdf contains the list of tier 1 & 2
journals that can be used under this option. Note that the article had
to be originally submitted for review (and acknowledged by the journal
editor - please provide the letter) on or before May 15, 1999.

This option is a transitional phase and eventually would be phased out
as part of the criteria.
