The
Committee undertook discussions of the admission process
during the Spring 2000 semester at the 02/07, 02/21, 03/20,
and 04/17. A proposal was created at the meeting of April
17, 2000. The Ph.D Committee approved a revised version of
that proposal on its meeting April 24, 2002.
"The School of Business Ph.D Committee is responsible
for "review and rendering decisions on the admissions
criteria and decisions for admission: to the School of Business
PhD. Program. The Committee recognizes that faculty within
a particular unit (program area or department) are best qualified
to formulate Ph.D. admissions criteria and to make admissions
decisions for that unit. The Committee therefore delegates
authority for admissions criteria and admissions decisions
to the department offering the major in consistence with
departmental By-Laws.
Notwithstanding this delegation of authority, decisions
to admit applicants with either a GMAT or GRE score below
the 65th percentile (based on total score) or a grade point
average below 3.0 for previous academic work are subject
to approval by the Ph.D School Committee.
The School of Business Ph.D. Committee will exercise its
oversight responsibility for the admissions decision process
in three ways.
First, members representing each program area or department
will provide throughout the Spring semester, as necessary,
an update on admission decisions for that upcoming year.
Secondly, during a meeting in the Fall semester of the academic
year, the Committee will review the admission decisions made
by each unit for that year and if there are concerns regarding
the process, the Committee will report its views to the doctoral-level
faculty of each unit and will request a formal meeting to
resolve the concerns.
Finally, changes in admissions criteria or policies at the
departmental level must be reported and approved by the Ph.D.
Committee"
